Indian vice-captain Rishabh Pant was angry with the umpires on Day 3 of the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. It happened in about the 60th over when Pant protested for ball change while mentioning a lack of swing. But, the umpire refused the appeal which resulted in Pant throwing the ball out of frustration. Jasprit Bumrah too joined the appeal to switch the ball, but the officials did not budge.

In reply, the innings of England got off to a nervous start as Zak Crawley fell cheaply. Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope, however, stabilized the score with a second-wicket stand of 122. Duckett made 62 before being dismissed, while Pope went on to score his century.

At lunchtime on Day 3, Prasidh Krishna opened early, dismissing Pope for 106. Even though there was an early loss, England had a persevering attitude. Harry Brook was crucial to the proceedings, scoring two vital fifty-plus stands with Stokes and Jamie Smith. Brook was unbeaten at lunch on 57*, while 29* was the score of Smith.

During the Lunch break on Day 3, England went ahead keeping Brook and Smith at the crease. India's bowling was led by Bumrah with three wickets, while Siraj and Krishna picked up one wicket each.
