The Caribbean is a tropical paradise full of breathtaking beaches, crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs and lush rainforests. It is the perfect place to escape the humdrum and pressures of everyday life and to rediscover the joys of living. Some 34.2 million tourists headed for the Caribbean last year, which represented a 6.1% increase on 2023.

While Jamaica, Barbados and St. Lucia currently rank as the most popular destinations, there is one island that is fast becoming a favourite with holidaymakers. Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory in the Eastern Caribbean, comprised of a small main island and several offshore islets.

Located four thousand miles from the UK, Anguilla saw a record-breaking surge in visitor arrivals last year, with 111,639 visitors.

This figure represents the highest number of annual visitors over the past 32 years.

This Caribbean gem offers an unparalleled escape for beach lovers, food enthusiasts, and adventure seekers alike.

The island is in particular renowned for its stunning beaches - some 33 in total - many of them almost untouched.

Shoal Bay East, with its powdery white sands and calm waters, is frequently ranked among the best beaches on the planet.

It certainly gets the thumbs up from visitors to the island, scoring an almost perfect five out of five on Tripadvisor.

One wrote: "OMG paradise white smooth sand, no shells and rocks , crystal clear water to the bottom. Take time to go visit this paradise."

While another said: "Simply one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever visited, anywhere.

"Anguilla's Shoal Bay is a breathtaking stretch of pure white sand that cradles Caribbean waters so blue they melt into the sky.

"With just a scattered selection of hotels, beach bars and restaurants, this feels as far from civilisation as you can get. Park at the East Dockside parking lot, near Olas Tacos, and slip into a paradise so intoxicating, you'll never want to leave."

There are plenty of water activities for those looking for adventure - scuba divers and snorkelers can explore vibrant coral reefs and swim with tropical fish.

It is also possible to hitch a ride on a sailing boat and head for the hidden coves around the island.

Anguilla is home to a rich culinary scene that fuses Caribbean flavours with international influences.
