Alejandro Garnacho has risked riling up Manchester United fans further by posting an image on social media of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt. The 20-year-old winger will leave United this summer after reportedly being told to find a new club and is said to want a Premier League stay, with multiple clubs linked.
Villa are among those credited with an interest. The Independent report that Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Napoli are also in the frame for the £70million-rated starlet. Garnacho fuelled speculation on Instagram as he shared a carousel of his holiday in Ibiza, and one particular image sparked a meltdown.
It showed the United No. 17 walking away from the camera between a Porsche and a Lamborghini while wearing a Villa shirt, donning 'Rashford 9' on the back.
While Garnacho's decision could be viewed as a show of support for his former teammate, he has faced backlash over his latest disrespect towards his parent club.
The Argentina international angered United fans with his comments immediately after their crushing 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
"Obviously, it is hard for everyone. Our season was s***. We did not beat anyone in the league," Garnacho told reporters at the San Mames Stadium.
"We lacked a lot of things. When you don't score goals, you always need more. Until we reached the final, I played every round. And I played 20 minutes today...
"I don't know. I'm going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next."
Garnacho seemingly also infuriated his head coach, Ruben Amorim, who reportedly told him to find a new club during a post-season team meeting.
The United academy graduate is believed to prefer a stay in England amid interest from multiple clubs, with Arsenal also touted as suitors.
Garnacho recorded his best individual numbers of his early career so far last season, scoring 11 goals and registering 10 assists in 58 appearances.
But Amorim has been ruthless with players who aren't 100 per cent bought into his project, which resulted in Rashford's loan move to Villa in January.
He has reportedly condemned Garnacho to the same fate as part of an attacking overhaul this summer, which should also feature the permanent exits of Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho.
Whether Villa's interest materialises remains to be seen, but Unai Emery can offer Europa League football in a dynamic team next term.
Amorim has already signed Garnacho's replacement, acquiring Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5m deal. Bryan Mbeumo's impending arrival from Brentford emphasises that the young winger's future lies elsewhere.
