Tushar Ghadigaonkar, actor-director best known for his contributions to the Marathi film scene, passed away on Friday. According to reports and tributes from friends on social media platforms, Ghadigaonkar is believed to have committed suicide following a prolonged period of lack of work opportunities. He was 32.
Actor Ankur Wadhave, a friend of the actor, shocked about the actor’s demise, confirmed the news on social media. “Work comes and goes! We must make a way but suicide is not the way,” the actor captioned the post.
Hailing from Kankavali in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, Ghadigaonkar was a thespian noted not only for his on-stage presence, and his performances in TV shows and movies, but also for stepping behind the camera to helm projects.
His acting credits include several films and shows like On rahu of, Clove Mirchi, Man kasturi re, Bhaubali, UNAD, Zombied, Hey man bawreand Sangeet Bibat Akhyan. Adding to his versatility, he established a production banner, GhantaNaad Productions, under which Ghadigaonkar directed multiple music videos including Kokan Chi Gomu.
Ghadigaonkar switched gears to directing when he undertook his first directorial project We know the water that wasa Marathi TV show.
Ghadigaonkar is survived by his wife, Siddhi, with whom he tied the knot in 2022. At the time, he had secured a role in the Marathi TV show Tumchi mulgi kya karte ?, starring Madhura Velankar. His sudden demise has highlighted the increasing need for mental health awareness in the film industry.
