Prithvi Shaw, the Mumbai opener, has formally expressed his desire to exit the state team and join another domestic cricket team as a professional player. He has requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to facilitate this transition.
A source from the MCA confirmed, “He has sought NoC from us and we will take a decision on it soon.”
Shaw is reportedly in discussions with two to three state associations that approached him earlier this month. This decision comes after a challenging period with Mumbai, marked by issues related to both fitness and performance. In October, the MCA's senior selection committee had advised Shaw to undertake a specific two-week fitness program, stressing the need for him to lose weight to remain eligible for selection.
Despite these recommendations, his physical condition did not improve as anticipated. As a result, he was excluded from Mumbai's squad for the Ranji Trophy and subsequently dropped from the Vijay Hazare Trophy team in December 2024. Shaw's pursuit of a fresh start elsewhere marks a significant shift in his domestic career, especially for someone who once captained India to a U19 World Cup victory and was seen as a rising star in Mumbai cricket.
