Jofra Archer is likely to make a comeback into the England Test team for the India series after a report emerged of him looking sharp while bowling against Durham on his return to first-class cricket. The England bowler has been dogged by elbow and back injuries in recent years.

According to Dailymail report, the 29-year-old, who has not featured in a Test since 2021, finished day two of Sussex's County Championship game at the Riverside with figures of 1-28 from 14 overs and was their most dangerous bowler on a docile pitch.

Jofra Archer on his return from injury

Archer, was satisfied with how his body held up through the day’s play. Speaking after stumps, he said, “I’m just happy to have completed a full day of four-day cricket. Last time I played, I only made it to tea, so this was a big step forward. Physically, I feel fine. Now it’s about tackling the mental side the routines, the concentration. That’s the next challenge,”.

He further added, “There’s no set cap on my overs. In a Test match, you can’t be operating under restrictions. Today I bowled 14, who knows how many it’ll be tomorrow? It’s all part of the process.”

England sweat over Archer's fitness

England are closely monitoring Archer’s progress, especially with an eye on the upcoming Ashes series in Australia later this year. Any involvement in the ongoing Test series against India would give a clearer indication of his red-ball readiness.

Despite the long layoff, Archer has consistently expressed his desire to return to the Test arena. His recent County stint may just be the boost he needed to put his name back into contention.
