Mumbai: In the latest development, the IIT Bombay has beefed up its security after an unknown man from Mangaluru, Karnataka, was illegally staying on the campus for 14 days, posing as a student.

Bilal Ahmed Fayaz Ahmed Teli, 22, was caught on June 17 by campus security and thereafter handed over to the Powai police station.

An investigation is underway to determine whether the accused was engaged in any surveillance, reconnaissance, or coordinated activity.

The suspect has been taken into custody by Mumbai police and a case has been filed against him under Sections 329(3) and 329(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. The intelligence agencies have been alarmed to assess any further security implications.

Authorities are advising students and faculty to remain cautious and report any unusual activity immediately.
