Community Service Initiatives in Ahmedabad

The Lions Pain Relief Assistance Trust and the Mrs. Manorama Kidney Foundation, renowned for their service efforts, are actively engaged in community service through various projects in Ahmedabad. These initiatives aim to assist those in need within the community. Located in front of the Civil Hospital in Asarwa, the "Digvijay Lions Pain Relief Assistance Trust" and the "Mrs. Manorama C. Shah Lions Digvijay Kidney Foundation" provide financial aid for medical treatment to economically disadvantaged patients visiting the hospital, along with affordable accommodation and meals for their accompanying family members. Additionally, they distribute an average of 12 sewing machines each month to empower women through employment opportunities.

Recently, on May 21, 2025, 12 sewing machines, three wheelchairs, and one tricycle were distributed to women in need to enhance their employability. On June 7, 2025, another 13 sewing machines and four wheelchairs were given out. In total, 25 sewing machines were presented over these two months by Maganbhai Patel, the president of the Evening Service Foundation, along with other dignitaries, including former Lions Club Governor Mahendrabhai Shah, Governor Hirenbhai Mewada, and L.K. Vaghela. During the event, Maganbhai Patel announced a commitment to provide 36 sewing machines annually, presenting a financial aid check to Managing Trustee Chimanbhai Shah, which was warmly received by all Lions Club members and attendees.

Similarly, in the New Fatehwadi area of Sarkhej, Ahmedabad, the "Madhuram Educational and Cultural Center" selflessly works to assist students from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Many extremely poor, widowed, and abandoned women live in rented homes with their children and lack alternative employment options. To support these families, Maganbhai Patel personally provided four sewing machines to some women in the area, helping them become self-sufficient.

It is important to note that Maganbhai Patel frequently visits this area, contributing to children's education and creating employment opportunities for both men and women, thereby continuously serving the community's development. If the capable and educated segments of society join this noble cause, there is no doubt that the transformation of this area will be significant.

Maganbhai Patel has provided four sewing machines to women who bear the responsibility of supporting their families. Some of these women live separately with two children, while others have husbands working as artisans, scrap dealers, or drivers, each with two to three children whose education also falls on these women.

At the age of 83, Maganbhai Patel continues to make significant contributions to community development by independently running all government-sponsored programs. To date, he has distributed thousands of sewing machines, tricycles, wheelchairs, and tools to help ordinary artisans find employment. He has played a crucial role in empowering countless women by providing beauty kits for beauty parlors and microfinance for cottage industries. Every month, he initiates three to four employment-oriented projects, inspiring economically disadvantaged groups to become self-sufficient and enabling women to manage their households effectively. If social organizations across the country join this effort, we can certainly realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision.

In the Sarkhej area of Ahmedabad, Madhubhai Shukla (age 92) from the Madhuram Educational Center still provides free tuition to around 50 underprivileged children, with all expenses covered by Maganbhai Patel. Each year, these children receive educational materials, school bags, notebooks, and more, funded by Patel. To further support education, he conducted a survey in the area and provided sewing machines to women in need, along with essential raw materials.

The Lions Pain Relief Assistance Trust has been engaged in service work for the past 31 years, conducting service activities worth ₹30,000,000 annually. To date, 336 sewing machines have been distributed to women, and with the support of Lions Club Governor Hirenbhai Mewada and donors, the goal is to provide 400 sewing machines in the future. The trust has also initiated sewing classes for widows and abandoned women to help them become self-sufficient, providing free sewing machines upon completion of training. Approximately 50 women have received training and sewing machines, enabling them to secure employment. The trust also supplies free medicines worth ₹150,000 to ₹200,000 each month to patients visiting the Civil Hospital. Additionally, it has donated ₹3.8 million for a digital X-ray machine and ₹500,000 for a speech and hearing machine for the treatment of deaf and mute patients.

This trust assists patients in various departments of the Civil Hospital, including nephrology, cardiology, oncology, gynecology, and paraplegia, by providing treatment and surgical support. It also helps patients with medication, offers home care for those who cannot afford it, and facilitates the transportation of deceased individuals to mortuaries. During the pandemic, the trust supported sisters who lost their husbands or relatives by providing them with sewing machines to help them become self-reliant.

During the event, Maganbhai Patel emphasized that as India emerges as a major global economic power, the participation of women in the nation's development narrative is becoming increasingly vital. It is no surprise that women in India are empowering themselves and placing their trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his team. If 50% of our population, which consists of women confined to their homes, does not participate, we cannot achieve success. It is the duty of social organizations to empower them through financial support, skills, and training. From women sarpanches to legislators, the role of women in public service is being promoted more than ever. The outcomes of social welfare programs multiply with women's participation, as they possess an extraordinary ability to care for not only their families but also the entire community. Major government initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) and the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana have significantly benefited women, providing them with financial independence and relief from daily hardships, in return for which they have shown unprecedented love and support. Our esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also inspired Indian women living abroad. The development-oriented initiatives of the Prime Minister have received clear support from women. The empowerment of women is now a crucial factor in the country's economic growth.

Maganbhai Patel further stated that during the tenure of the Modi government, women's participation has been pivotal in leading national transformation. The focus has shifted from women's development to development led by women under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Globally, there is much discussion about women's empowerment. In the 21st century, women have begun to participate in many fields traditionally dominated by men. The advancement of technology has made this task easier. The Government of India has prioritized its vision of women-led development to make India a developed nation by 2047.

In conclusion, Maganbhai Patel remarked that ancient Indian texts and scriptures depict empowered women as the central figures around which civilizations flourished. However, a series of invasions and attacks posed threats to civilization. In this dark age, women faced various forms of torture and abuse. Regardless of the reasons, it is undeniable that we are still struggling for women's empowerment worldwide. This issue continues to gain prominence with each passing day. Consequently, the Government of India has launched numerous women empowerment schemes compared to other countries. There is no doubt that these initiatives will pave the way for leadership development among women. Numerous service organizations operate in every part of the country. If we support such organizations through donations and by leveraging government schemes, the horizontal development of women and those in need will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the nation's progress. The purpose of presenting this article is to highlight that there are millions of service-minded individuals in the country working for such initiatives. If these individuals receive support from government schemes and financially stable individuals, this service will surely reach every corner of the nation.
