The details of BBC Radio 2 DJ Steve Wright's final wishes have been unveiled following his tragic death in February 2024, when he was 69. The legendary broadcaster who also fronted Top of the Pops left behind a staggering amount for his family and a touching charity contribution, which were revealed by his children, Tom and Lucy Wright, as the executors of his estate.

From the staggering paychecks throughout his career, Steve left behind a total of £40,623 after tax. He donated £15,000 to Cancer Research UK and £10,000 to the British Heart Foundation. With both contributions free from inheritance tax, he left the rest of the money to his two children to be split between them.

During his time on BBC Radio 2, Steve also presented the popular Sunday Love Songs mid-morning show, with his final show being a pre-recorded Valentine's Day edition of popular weekend music broadcast.

Before his death, the father of two was due to front a new BBC spin-off show as the broadcaster planned to launch four fresh stations dedicated to playing classic hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

At the time, Steve's family released an emotional statement, which read: "It is with deep sorrow and profound regret that we announce the passing of our beloved Steve Wright.

"In addition to his son, Tom, and daughter, Lucy, Steve leaves behind his brother, Laurence and his father, Richard."

Steve's family added: "Also, much-loved close friends and colleagues, and millions of devoted radio listeners who had the good fortune and great pleasure of allowing Steve into their daily lives as one of the UK's most enduring and popular radio personalities.

"As we all grieve, the family requests privacy at this immensely difficult time."

Three months after his tragic death, the Metropolitan Police provided an update after they previously stated that Wright's death at a flat in Marylebone, central London, "was unexpected, but is not being treated as suspicious." They added that no inquest would be held as a result of his death.

It was later revealed that Steve's sudden death was a result of a ruptured stomach ulcer, as his death certificate labelled it an acute peritonitis and a perforated gastric peptic ulcer.
