Aizawl, June 25: The government of Mizoram has initiated the e-office system, joining other states in a bid to enhance digital governance and improve the efficiency of official operations.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Dr. Vanlalthlana, the state's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) minister, announced that the e-office system was launched at the state secretariat on April 18.
Initially tested in four departments, including the School Education and Public Works Departments, the system has now been implemented across all 41 departments within the secretariat, as well as in the Chief Minister's Office.
Following its success in the secretariat, plans are in place to extend the e-office system to directorates and district offices, according to Vanlalthlana. He noted that efforts to introduce this system began in January 2024.
The central government's Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances allocated Rs 1.99 crore under the State Collaborative Initiative scheme to facilitate the establishment of e-offices. So far, approximately 6,492 files have been created using this new system.
Vanlalthlana highlighted that the e-office system has significantly improved governance, allowing for quicker file movement and eliminating issues related to missing documents.
He also mentioned that the system is being utilized effectively by the Chief Minister, ministers, chief secretary, and senior officials, enabling them to work remotely via a virtual private network.
Additionally, the ICT Department is in the process of upgrading the domains and hosting for over 300 government websites. The minister expressed concern that many government websites are currently inaccessible due to the transition from the existing server host, Ctrl-S Data Centre, to a more secure Google Virtual Private Server (VPS).
As of now, 23 departmental websites have been successfully reactivated.
