Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Indore Municipal Corporation is going to crack down on property tax defaulters with dues of ₹50,000 or more.

This and many more decisions were taken in a meeting chaired by revenue department in charge Niranjan Singh Chauhan on Thursday.

The primary focus of the meeting was to assess the progress in revenue collection and to implement measures aimed at achieving the set targets. Chauhan emphasised the urgent need for multi-level action to strengthen the municipal corporation’s income streams.

Chauhan also highlighted the importance of leveraging modern technology and data analytics for regular monitoring and improved financial performance. He urged all officers to fulfill their responsibilities efficiently and contribute to enhancing the financial strength of the municipal corporation.

Key directives & discussion points:

Crackdown on high-value defaulters: Zone in charges were instructed to identify property tax defaulters owing ₹50,000 or more and take swift action for recovery.

Expedited mutation process: Officers were directed to resolve all pending property mutation cases within the stipulated time frame to prevent inconvenience to citizens.

Accurate tax assessment: Instructions were issued to reassess properties currently listed as residential or temporary (kutcha/OP) but being used commercially or with permanent (R.C.C ) structures, ensuring correct taxation.

Bringing unregistered properties into the tax net: Field-level surveys will be conducted to identify properties not currently included in municipal records. These properties will be brought under the tax system with proper account creation.

Area verification for tax compliance: Instances in which properties utilize more space than officially declared will be re-evaluated to ensure proper tax levying.

Survey of newly incorporated villages: Door-to-door surveys will be undertaken in 29 villages that were included within municipal limits in 2012, with the goal of identifying and registering new properties.

Citizen-friendly approach: the revenue in charge emphasised the need for transparency and sensitivity in dealing with the public, particularly in matters related to property tax, water tax, garbage collection fees and name transfers.
