These 8 important rules will change in Test cricket! ICC’s big update between India-England tournament

Test cricket Many changes are going to happen from July 2. The ICC has approved a change in many new rules and sports rules for international cricket. Let’s know which important rules have changed the ICC.

Stop watch in Test cricket:

A year after implementing the Stop Clock Rules in T20 and ODI cricket, the ICC has now decided to implement it in Tests as well. The slow over rate in the test is a major problem. Now according to the new ICC rule, the fielding team will have to start the next over within a minute of the completion of the previous over. If they do not do this, they will get a warning twice from the umpire. After this, a penalty of five runs will be imposed every time. Warnings will be reset after 80 overs. This rule will be applicable only in the 2025-27 World Test Championship.

Big penalty for short runs:

The ICC has also taken a big decision regarding the short run. Earlier, five runs were penalty for deliberate short run, but according to the new rules, if a batsman does not deliberately complete the run to steal the extra runs, the umpire will ask the fielding team which batsman they need on strike. Apart from this, a five -run penalty will be imposed on the team of the batsman who took the short run. However, this will happen only when the umpire feels that the batsman does not intend to cheat the umpire or score runs.

Restrictions on saliva:

The ICC has prohibited the plate of saliva on the ball. But the biggest change is that if the umpire gets saliva on the ball, it cannot be changed immediately. This change has been made to prevent teams from using saliva to deliberately change the ball. Now the umpire will change the ball only when there will be a big change in the position of the ball, for example when the ball is very wet or has an extra glow. This decision is completely taken at the discretion of the umpire.

Changes in DRS protocol:

The ICC has also made major changes in the DRS protocol. Suppose a batsman is caught out and asks for review. Ultraies shows that the ball hit the pad without touching the bat. After the catch out, the TV umpire now examines the second out mode (for example LBW). Earlier, if there was no catch out, the default decision for LBW was “not out”. But the new rule shows ball-tracking graphic for LBW and if the batsman is found out here, he will have to return to the pavilion.

If there are two appeals against a batsman…

The ICC has made a major change in the review process of the umpire and the player. The first TV umpire first considered review of the umpire and then the player’s review, but according to the new rule, if the batsman is out in the first event, the ball is dead. The second review will not be reviewed. For example, if LBW appeals and run out, the TV umpire will first review LBW, as this happened earlier. If the batsman is out, the ball is dead there.

There is also a big change in the rule in relation to catch:

Under the new rules, when the field umpire seeks the help of the third umpire to see if the bowler has thrown a no-ball, he will first check if the bowler has thrown a no-ball. If the catch is caught correctly, only an additional run is given for no-ball. If the catch is not caught correctly, the runs made by the batsmen are given to the team batting.

These two big changes:

The ICC has allowed the use of a new ball after the 35th over in ODI cricket. This will now help fast bowlers in death overs. Apart from this, the ICC has also made changes about catch in the boundary. If a player makes any kind of contact with the ball from outside the boundary, he will be considered illegal. Fielder can catch the ball from outside the boundary just once.
