Ranvir Singh caused a stir on ITV's Lorraine this Friday morning as the studio was 'hijacked' by characters from Squid Game.

Filling in for Lorraine Kelly, she was about to commence a piece on the second season of the popular Netflix series when she halted proceedings to celebrate her colleague Lucie Cave's birthday.

"But first we have some special guests for you," started Ranvir, while a surprised Lucie exclaimed, "For me?"

The mood turned as eerie Squid Game tunes filled the air and figures clad in the recognisable red getups emerged, bearing a cake.

Taking a jab at the brutal nature of the series, Ranvir jokingly remarked: "This isn't the kindest way to wish you happy birthday by having murderers on set but thank you to the team from Squid Game," reports the Express.

"They're so scary!" Lucie responded, then joked with relief: "I thought they were going to put it in my face."

Keeping in line with the Squid Game atmosphere, Ranvir cheekily suggested to Lucie that she might need to slice the cake in one clean stroke, nodding to a notorious task from the programme's initial series.

"Or else I'll be splatted!" jested Lucie in return.

The show pushed on, featuring an interview where Lucie sat down with Squid Game actors Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun.

"The director of our series has said that season three is the finale of the series but if you watch the last episode you'll wonder if this truly is the end of the story," hinted Lee Jung-jae.

"It really feels like the story has room to expand and that there's an even bigger one waiting behind it.

"The director was extremely happy to see people die as the games progressed because if you have a big cast it's very difficult to direct scenes but when you have less people it's easier, so he was very happy to see things coming to an end for them," he then laughed.

Lee Byung-hun shared his experience with fake gore on set with Lucie: "I try to feel that it's real, especially the scene in the Mingling Game when I was hiding in the room, I saw the scenes, there was blood on the floor, that was very impressive for me and felt very real. I rememver that scene so much."

Reflecting on the unexpected success of the show, he revealed: "Nobody expected this love and support, as you know, it has mentally and physically brutal scenes, we were concerned about those things too. But the people around the world have related to the social and political events about humanity."

Catch Lorraine every weekday from 9am on ITV1.
