Chennai: The Hockey Association of Odisha and the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu made headlines on Friday by clinching the titles in the women's and men's divisions, respectively, at the inaugural Hockey India Masters Cup 2025.
In the women's final, Odisha triumphed over Hockey Punjab, while Tamil Nadu secured victory against Hockey Maharashtra in the men's championship match held at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium.
Hockey Haryana claimed the bronze medal in the women's category by defeating the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu, whereas Hockey Chandigarh took home the bronze in the men's section after overcoming the Hockey Association of Odisha.
The women's final saw the Hockey Association of Odisha narrowly defeat Hockey Punjab 1-0. Both teams fought hard, remaining scoreless in the first half.
Ranjita Beck (34) emerged as the hero of the match, skillfully maneuvering past Hockey Punjab's defense to net the decisive goal and secure the championship.
In the men's final, the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu dominated Hockey Maharashtra with a 5-0 victory. After a goalless first half, Muthuselvan D. (30’), Sudharsan S. (34’), Govthaman (36’), Thamaraikannan (40’), and Ramadoss V. (52’) scored in quick succession to seal the win.
In the women's bronze medal match, Hockey Haryana edged out the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 4-3 in a thrilling contest. Saumya (40’, 48’) netted two goals for Tamil Nadu, alongside Captain Mecklish James (5’), who added another.
For Hockey Haryana, Monorama Goswami (19’, 56’) and Chingshubam Sanggai Ibemhal (22’, 34’) each scored twice, leading their team to a podium finish.
In the men's bronze medal match, Hockey Chandigarh triumphed over the Hockey Association of Odisha 2-1. Ravinder Singh (26’) opened the scoring for Chandigarh, but Ladhu Ekka (44’) equalized late in the third quarter. Ultimately, Harvinder Singh (52’) secured the win for Chandigarh with a late goal.
