The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently taken an important decision regarding the 10th board examination, under which the 10th board examination will be conducted twice a year from the year 2026. The first board examination of the 10th will be compulsory for all the children, while the second board examination will be voluntary. However, only those students will be able to appear in the second board examination, who have given the first examination of 10th. After this important change regarding the 10th board examination, now students and parents want to know about CBSE's plans regarding the 12th board examination. The question is whether CBSE will also conduct the 12th board examination twice a year. Let us know what are the preparations of CBSE regarding this. What do experts say?

Is the 12th board examination possible twice a year?

CBSE has decided to conduct the 10th board examination twice a year under the New Education Policy 2020. There is clear instruction regarding this in Para 4.37 of the New Education Policy 2020, in which it has been asked to make a provision to improve the existing system of entrance examinations including the board. The main objective behind this is to eliminate the need for coaching classes among students.

The new education policy clearly states that the board examinations will be redesigned to remove the harmful effects of the current evaluation system, to encourage overall development. Along with this, the new education policy has also instructed to make the board examinations easier. In such a situation, a change is possible in the 12th board examination after the 10th, in which the option of conducting the 12th board examination twice a year is open.

What do experts say?

TV9 spoke to Dr. Satbir Sharma, Principal of Vidya Bal Bhavan Senior Secondary School, Mayur Vihar, Delhi, regarding the possibility of CBSE 12th board examination being held twice a year. Dr Satbir Sharma, who is a part of many CBSE committees, said that the new education policy has also asked for changes in the 12th board examination. At present, the decision to conduct the 10th examination twice a year can be seen as a trial. Through this trial, CBSE has to create a mechanism so that there is no delay in the release of the result due to the 12th examination being conducted twice a year.

He said that CBSE has proposed a second board examination for class 10 in May. If it is implemented in class 12, then the result of CBSE board students will be delayed as compared to other education boards. At the same time, the delay in the result can also affect the admission of students after 12th at the international level. In such a situation, CBSE has to find a solution to some such problems before conducting the 12th examination twice a year.
