Google on Thursday launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) based app Doppl, which allows users to try clothes virtually. This is an experimental app created by Google Labs. Initially, it was planned to make it a part of Google Search's AI mode, but now the company is introducing it as a standalone app. In this app, the user just has to upload his full-length photo. Then Doppl's AI model recognizes the body shape in that photo and superimposes different outfits on it in a realistic way.

Google informed about the launch of this new app in a blog post. At the Google I/O 2025 event, the company launched several AI features in shopping products. One of them was the virtual try-on feature, which has now appeared in the form of this Doppl app. The purpose of this app is to allow people to see how a garment will look on them before shopping. This eliminates the problem that it is difficult to know how a cloth that looks good on a model will look on oneself.

This is not Google's first such attempt. In 2023 also, Google launched an AI feature that showed clothes on models with different body shapes, but Doppl makes that feature more personal. Now users can upload their photos and see how any clothes will look on them.

How does Doppl work?

Google said that this feature works on a custom fashion-based image generation model. This model understands the folds, stretches, and fit of the human body and clothes very well. The most special thing about this app is that users are not limited to the outfits available only on online shopping sites. If they want, they can also upload photos of their friend's clothes, outfits seen in local stores or clothes seen on social media and see how it will look on them.
