Chamba: A moment of pride for Himachal Pradesh as acclaimed folk artist Inder Jeet has been awarded the esteemed Himachal Ratan Award, recognizing his significant efforts in preserving and promoting the region's folk culture. The award was presented by Bollywood star Esha Deol during the Excellence Iconic Awards 2025, hosted by 3 Finger Entertainment Ltd in Dehradun.
Originating from the scenic village of Doghri near Kullu-Manali, Inder Jeet's musical journey is truly inspiring. Born on March 12, 1992, he developed a love for music early on, despite lacking formal training or resources. At the age of 16, he made a bold debut with his first video album, 'Dil Ka Kya Kasoor,' featuring ten self-composed songs, a remarkable feat in the pre-digital age.
Inder Jeet opted for a distinctive route, avoiding the allure of commercial cinema and glamour. Instead, he concentrated on the essence of Himachal—its language, traditions, attire, and folk heritage. His music revitalizes fading customs, transforming them into a vibrant cultural force.
His breakthrough came in 2016 with the hit song 'Haade Mere Mamua,' which quickly became a favorite among listeners. This success was followed by viral tracks such as 'Laadi Shauni,' 'Pakhli Manu,' 'Budhua Mama,' and 'Saaja Laga Maghe Ra,' each garnering millions of views on YouTube and elevating Himachali folk music to an international audience.
Inder Jeet's songs transcend mere entertainment, often conveying profound social and spiritual messages. For instance, 'Atharah Karadu' honors Himachal's Dev culture, while 'Mata Kerde Nasha' serves as a powerful statement against drug abuse. His heartfelt tribute to the late six-time Chief Minister Raja Virbhadra Singh resonated deeply with audiences and was well-received by the former leader himself.
With a repertoire of over 100 songs, numerous performances both nationally and internationally, and an expanding fanbase, Inder Jeet has emerged as a musical ambassador for Himachal Pradesh. His mission extends beyond music; he is dedicated to preserving, protecting, and promoting the rich folk traditions of the region on a global scale.
During his acceptance speech, Inder Jeet dedicated the Himachal Ratan Award to his supporters and the people of Himachal Pradesh, stating: 'This honor belongs to every listener who has championed our culture. Through my voice, I aspire to share the essence of Himachal's soil with the world.'
The award ceremony also honored individuals from various sectors across India for their outstanding contributions.
