Vishnu Manchu’s big mythological action drama Kannappa might not have broken records on its opening day, but it did make a strong point at the box office. Releasing on Friday, the Telugu-language movie raked in an estimated ₹9 crore net in India, early data from Sacnilk.com shows.
Regional Occupancy and Comparisons
The box office performance of the film was mixed in language markets. Telugu markets took the lead with a stunning 55.89% occupancy, followed by smaller numbers in Tamil and Hindi markets at 16.45% and 14.56%, respectively. The Kannada and Malayalam markets contributed 13.81% and 7.20%. As a regional release at its core, Kannappa still performed better than many recent pan-India releases.
To its credit, it came extremely close to doubling Maa, the mythological horror thriller of Kajol, which opened with ₹4.5 crore. Although both the movies opened on the same day, Kannappa’s mix of action, spirituality, and star power obviously spoke more to people.
