The pressure is on Arsenal this summer to deliver and find the forwards that will transform the club’s potential to win the Premier League title among other silverware next season. Benjamin Sesko features prominently among those plans and discussions are ongoing to secure their number one striker target.

There are contingencies in the form of Viktor Gyokeres as sporting director Andrea Berta works holistically across multiple targets in this new-look approach to Arsenal’s transfer business. The club are also keen on adding two other forward options, with keenness on both Rodrygo and Eberechi Eze,which football.london is aware of among alternatives too.

Landing so many top players is a very expensive ordeal. Made tougher by the volume of needs across the side going into the summer transfer window with a back-up goalkeeper, a defender and, after the expected departure of Thomas Partey and Jorginho, two defensive midfielders.

Thankfully, how Berta has navigated these necessities prior to the tougher, more protracted negotiations for the forwards has been a stroke of genius. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Christian Norgaard are expected to arrive for just over £15million combined.

While the club remain in talks following an opening rejected proposal for Valancia’s Cristhian Mosquera below £17million, with an agreed price expected not to be much more than the initial approach. Add to that the marquee addition of Martin Zubimendi, with the club believed to have agreed a fee slightly above his £51million clause, so they can pay in more favourable terms.

This amounts to an estimated spend of around £90million on four signings, the bulk of which is on a starting figure for the team. After a summer in 2024 where good money was made on the sales of Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and Aaron Ramsdale, which has effectively been used to pay for these four summer signings, the club still have great freedom to spend on their higher profile attacking targets.

When considering the club were thinking of spending £25million on Joan Garcia last summer to be the back-up keeper, have spent sizeable fees on the likes of Fabio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga, they have gone for smarter, experienced moves here instead for players still operating at a high level.

A template which saw success with the £12million move for Jorginho in January of 2023. But cheaper deals in the past for Cedric Soares, Pablo Mari, Matt Turner, Nuno Tavares, Alex Runarsson and more sadly didn’t deliver the requisite quality. In 2025, the hope is this will be far different and the numbers already suggest this will be the case.
