Suspense crime, Digital Desk : In a major recognition of Indian cinema’s growing global influence, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited a distinguished group of Indian actors, directors, and producers to join its ranks as new members.

Among the invitees for the “Class of 2025” are legendary figures like Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, alongside contemporary trailblazers such as director Payal Kapadia and actor Ayushmann Khurrana. If they accept, they will have the prestigious right to vote in the annual Academy Awards.

The prestigious invitation list highlights a wide spectrum of talent from the Indian film industry. It includes veteran actor-director Kamal Haasan (Nayakan, Thug Life), celebrated director Mani Ratnam (Ponniyin Selvan), and prolific producers Karan Johar (Dharma Productions), Ritesh Sidhwani (Excel Entertainment), Siddharth Roy Kapur, and Oscar-winner Guneet Monga (The Elephant Whisperers).

Acclaimed actor Ayushmann Khurrana and cinematographer Senthil Kumar, known for his stunning work on blockbusters like RRR and Bahabaliwere also extended invitations.

The inclusion of Payal Kapadia is particularly notable, coming on the heels of her historic Grand Prix win at the Cannes Film Festival for All We Imagine As Light. The Academy also recognized the documentary filmmaking duo Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas, whose film Writing with Fire was nominated for an Oscar.

This wave of invitations is part of the Academy’s ongoing effort to diversify its membership and better reflect the global landscape of filmmaking. The inclusion of these 11 Indian artists in the total list of 487 new invitees underscores the increasing impact and recognition of Indian talent on the world stage.
