If you are new to the world of houseplants and want something easy to look after, you really can't go wrong with a peace lily. These pretty plants, with their dark green glossy leaves, are pretty low maintenance and can live for a long time.
However, one common problem when it comes to peace lilies is getting them to bloom. They can produce striking white tear-shaped flowers if they're looked after correctly, but it's not always easy to do this. Thankfully one plant expert has pinpointed a huge mistake that many are making that could deter peace lilies from flowering.
Plant pro Tanner, also known as Tanner the Planter on social media, is no stranger to helping people out with their plant woes. In one of his informative videos, he explained the best ways to care for your peace lily in order to encourage good leaf and flower growth.
Highlighting how the flowers 'don't last forever', he said they will always be 'coming and going' but there are ways to keep encouraging them to come back. And insufficient sunlight is the 'number one mistake' that will stop your plant from producing these blooms.
He said: "If your peace lily is not flowering, the number one reason they're not flowering is because they're not in bright enought light.
"What you can do is you can move them a little bit closer to the window with a nicer view of the sky."
However, plant owners should be careful when positioning their peace lilies, as too much sunlight could cause something bizarre to happen to the flowers.
Tanner continued:"If your flowers are coming out green, that means you've probably put the plant in too bright of a light. And then you would want to scoot it back from the window a little bit.
"You want to find that medium scenario where the flowers are coming out, and they're coming out the appropriate colour."
