New Delhi: Indian cricket team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir is known for his serious demeanour on and off the field. A straightforward individual who likes to stick to his no-nonsense approach, Gambhir rarely goes overboard with his emotions. While his serious demeanour has often sparked intrigue among fans, the India head coach himself revealed why he is always so serious.

Gambhir recently made an appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show alongside Indian cricketers Abhishek Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Yuzvendra Chahal, where he was asked about his serious demeanour. The episode is set to go live on July 05, however, a promo of the same has been shared on social media, where Gambhir responded to the question.

“Why are you always so serious?” host Kapil can be seen asking Gambhir playfully in the promo. “I stay serious so I can bring smiles to others’ faces. Someone has to take that role,” responds the India head coach with a smile on his face.

In the promo, Kapil can also be seen asking Pant about Gambhir’s serious attitude. “What is the environment like in the dressing room. Is Gautam bhai always serious with you guys too,” Kapil asks Pant. “When there is a nervous situation in a match, then everybody gets tense, it’s part of the game,” Pant tells Kapil, before Gambhir intervenes and pulls the hosts’ leg over his show.

Gambhir, who took over from Rahul Dravid as the new head coach of the Indian team last year, has already won a major ICC trophy in his first year in charge of the team. India defeated New Zealand in the final to win the Champions Trophy 2025 title, marking Gambhir’s first trophy as the head coach of the team. It was also India’s second consecutive ICC title, having won the T20 World Cup 2024 last year.
