The torrential rains in Uttarakhand for the last few days have disturbed life. Especially the cloudburst in Uttarkashi has caused huge destruction, which has broken many connectivity routes and the contact of villages has been cut off from the main cities. The debris falling from the mountains and the rich rivers have increased difficulties for the local people and pilgrims. After the warning of the Meteorological Department, the administration has immediately adjourned the Chardham Yatra for the next 24 hours. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of pilgrims.
The cloudburst in Uttarkashi has caused havoc in many villages. Roads, bridges and power lines have been damaged, which is also obstructing relief operations. Local residents say that they have never seen such a natural disaster before. The district administration has started relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. District Magistrate Prashant Kumar Arya said that the teams of NDRF and SDRF have reached the affected areas and the work of transporting people to safe places is going on fast.
Chardham Yatra, which draws millions of devotees towards Uttarakhand every year, is facing the weather this time. The journey has been temporarily stopped on the instructions of the Garhwal Commissioner. Police and local administration have been instructed to make pilgrims at safe places. Many pilgrims are staying in cities like Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh, where the administration has arranged for temporary shelters and food for them.
