The All England Club have reportedly made a series of significant changes to their menus at Wimbledon this summer. The organisation is bidding to become more sustainable at this year's competition, and that has been reflected in the food options on offer.

Thousands are expected to travel to SW19 over the coming weeks, and the food and drink, of course, plays a key role in how the overall day out unravels. However, some regulars at Wimbledon look set to be disappointed.

Avocado has been a favourite among spectators over the years, but The Times report that the fruit is set to be scrapped from menus. Instead, it will be replaced by British-grown peas.

They will be crushed, as opposed to mushed like they are when served with fish and chips, and used in dishes as an alternative to avocado, such as on toast or when mixed as a light dish with feta cheese.

Smoked salmon that comes from fish farms has also been scratched from menus, with British trout replacing it in items. Other 'swap' items are also going to be put on offer as well, including plant-based cream to be served with locally sourced strawberries - though the real product will also be available.

Although strawberries are expected to prove popular among those in attendance, any that are not sold will then be made into jam which can then be used in the on-site kitchens and restaurants.

Other items that are not sold at Wimbledon will also be sent to the charity City Harvest, with a van cleverly named Vandy Murray set to visit SW19 every day and deliver the produce to those in need.

The All England Club have also implemented some changes driven by sustainability in the kitchens, with gas being removed from 30 kitchens, as well as in the players' showers - which are now set to be heated by solar thermal tubes.

It remains to be seen how the organisation responds to the weather forecast for the opening few days at Wimbledon, with a heatwave firmly on the cards. As a result, it could be the hottest start to Wimbledon on record, with amber heat alerts set to be in place until Tuesday evening.
