Chelsea and Brighton have agreed a deal for the signing of Joao Pedro, football.london understands. The Blues have reached a breakthrough with the Seagulls for a deal understood to be around £55 million (plus £5m in add-ons).

The Brazil international is set to sign a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge after a breakthrough in negotiations was made. Pedro is now expected to join up with the Chelsea squad for the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup campaign, with the registration needing to be completed before July 3. Pedro will be able to make his Chelsea debut in the Club World Cup should he be signed before the deadline on Thursday.

The fee for the 23-year-old is understood to be in excess of £60m - should add-ons be met - with Enzo Maresca getting the versatile attacker he was after. Chelsea have been keen admirers of Pedro for a while now but advanced with their interest just over ten days ago where the west Londoners made contact with Brighton over a possible move.

The news comes less than 24 hours after Chelsea agreed a £55m move with Borussia Dortmund for the signing of Jamie Gittens. The 20-year-old completed the first part of his medical on Saturday ahead of, like Pedro, penning a seven-year deal in west London.

By all accounts, both Gittens and Pedro will become Chelsea players - with Maresca adding more depth to his attacking line ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. It means the Blues now have at least two options in each position in the final third.

Pedro is a versatile forward, who has played all across the front line for Brighton; including the No.9 and No.10 roles, as well as being used in wide areas for the Seagulls. With Christopher Nkunku expected to leave this summer, Pedro will provide support and competition for Cole Palmer, who has looked fatigued at times during this extremely long season.

Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto are fine options for the right wing, while Gittens will go head-to-head with Tyrique George for a spot on the other side. Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson are Chelsea's No.9 options, while Pedro has also been used as the central striker in recent seasons.
