Jawaharlal Nehru University i.e. JNU has started the registration process for PhD admission for the academic year 2025-2026. Students who want to do PhD from here can register by visiting the official website of JNU, jnuee.jnu.ac.in. The application process will run till July 7. After visiting the JNU website, students will get three options for PhD registration. The deadline for all three eligibility criteria is the same i.e. till 11:50 pm on July 7. According to their eligibility, students can click on any option box and fill out the admission form.

Before applying, candidates are advised to carefully read the JNU PhD admission e-prospectus available on the university website to know about the eligibility criteria, availability of seats, and other details before submitting the online application. Candidates will have to apply separately for admission through NET, JRF, and GATE (for Engineering School only). Candidates must have passed NET/JRF/GATE in the relevant subjects as prescribed by the respective Schools/Centres/Special Centres of the University.
JNU PhD Admission 2025 Schedule
Applicants will get a chance to correct the details in their online application form from 8 to 9 July 2025. Invitations for viva voce are likely to be sent by 18 July 2025 and viva voce exams are likely to be held from 25 to 31 July 2025.
First Merit List
The first merit list for admission to PhD is expected to be released on 11 August 2025. After this, pre-enrolment registration and fee payment for the first list will be likely from 11 to 13 August 2025. Physical verification of admission/registration for these candidates is scheduled from 18 to 21 August 2025.
Second Merit List
What is the educational qualification?
Master's degree: Candidates must have a 1 year/2 semester Master's degree after a 4 year/8 semester Bachelor's degree or a 2 year/4 semester Master's degree after a 3-year Bachelor's degree. In both cases, a minimum of 55 percent marks or an equivalent grade in aggregate is required.
M.Phil Programme: Candidates who have completed M.Phil with at least 55 percent marks in aggregate or equivalent grade are eligible.
Four-year/8 semester graduation degree: Candidates seeking admission after a 4-year/8 semester graduation degree program must have a minimum of 75 percent marks in aggregate or equivalent grade.
Foreign Academic Institutions: Equivalent qualifications from any recognized foreign academic institution are also accepted.
