On Monday, Jonny Evans – who announced his retirement from football – was named as Manchester United’s head of loans and pathways.

The 37-year-old will also work closely with director of football Jason Wilcox and the director of the academy, the club announced.

Evans was the last player from the 2012-13 Premier League-winning squad to don the United jersey after the North Ireland international returned for his second stint at Old Trafford in 2023.

Here’s a look at some of the active players from that squad and where they are playing their football currently.

David de Gea

The 34-year-old goalkeeper, who left United two years back after spending 12 years at the club, joined Serie A club Fiorentina after a one-year break from football.

The Spaniard custodian kept 11 clean sheets in the league and helped the side finish sixth to book a spot in next season’s UEFA Conference League play-off round.

Chris Smalling

The 35-year-old centre-back currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Fayha.

Smalling spent almost a decade at United before joining Italian side Roma on a permanent deal in 2020. He spent fours in Serie A before joining his current club.

Javier Hernandez

Chicharito has been plying his trade at Mexican club Guadalajara, a club he played for before joining United, since 2024.

The 37-year-old forward has so far managed to find the net only twice in 25 appearances across two seasons.

Ashley Young

The 39-year-old full-back is currently a free agent after spending the last two seasons in the Premier League with Everton.

Young spent nine years at Old Trafford, winning the Europa League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup apart from the PL title in 2013.

Danny Welbeck

The 34-year-old forward, who graduated from the famed United academy at Carrington, currently plays for Brighton in the Premier League.

The Englishman has so far spent five years with the Seagulls and scored 33 goals in the league for the side.

Shinji Kagawa

Japan’s Shinji Kagawa joined United from Borussia Dortmund ahead of the 2012-13 season and went on to feature in 20 games in the league, scoring six times.

The now 36-year-old spent three seasons with the Red Devils before moving back to Dortmund in Germany.

Alexander Buttner

Having just played 13 games across two seasons in the Premier League, Dutchman Alexander Buttner is one of the lesser-known names to lift the 2012-13 title under Alex Ferguson.

The 36-year-old now plays for Vitesse, a club playing in the second division of Netherlands.
