The late Diana, Princess of Wales previously claimed that she was "pursued" by Donald Trump after she split from the then Prince Charles - but that she was "creeped out" by him. Speaking of a dinner that she had with Diana, who died in 1997, presenter Selina Scott said that the late royal had confided in her about what to do about all the attention that the now US President had shown her.

The late Princess of Wales reportedly said: "What am I going to do? He gives me the creeps." To this, Ms Scott said that she replied: "Just throw them in the bin."

After revealing that Diana had laughed at her response, the long-standing critic of Trump also said he sent the flowers to the Princess's London home at Kensington Palace.

She wrote in a Sunday Times column in 2015: "Trump clearly saw Diana as the ultimate trophy wife.

"As the roses and orchids piled up at her apartment she became increasingly concerned about what she should do. It had begun to feel as if Trump was stalking her."

After Diana's tragic death in Paris in 1997, Mr Trump said he regretted not dating her - stating in his 1997 book 'The Art of the Comeback' that he only had "one regret in the women department - that I never had the opportunity to court Lady Diana Spencer."

Referring to her as a "dream lady", he added: "I met her on a number of occasions. I couldn't help but notice how she moved people.

"She lit up the room with her charm, her presence. She was a genuine princess - a dream lady."

In a comment that likely would have not gone down too well with her sons, Trump previously said in an interview with Howard Stern in 1997 that he could have "nailed her".
