A prince has died just weeks before the birth of his child, his wife has confirmed. Prince Harald von Hohenzollern, 63, has died after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest in Windhoek, Namibia.
The prince, who comes from The House of Hohenzollern - a formal royal German dynasty - was in Namibia at the time as a result of his work in the diamond industry. His wife Princess Josefa von Hohenzollern, 51, confirmed his death in a heartbreaking Instagram post five days ago. His death comes just weeks before the birth of their first child, and just nine months after the couple married.
Princess Josefa wrote on Instagram: "Dear fellow citizens of Leonberg, today I am writing with a heavy heart.
"My beloved husband Harald v. Hohenzollern died quite unexpectedly of a sudden cardiac death. This loss hits me very deep.
"I need time to grieve, say goodbye and be there for our unborn child. That's why I will be stepping back from campaigning and social media in the coming days.
"I hope for your understanding during this time off and thank you from the bottom of my heart at this point for your condolences and support."
As reported by Hello!, Josefa is a civil servant and has recently been running to be re-elected as mayor of Leonberg.
It is believed she is now taking a break from campaigning to grieve the loss of her husband.
The funeral details are yet to be confirmed.
