Water is very important for all the functioning of our body. It helps in removing toxic elements from the body, keeping digestion, making the skin healthy and maintaining energy levels. A normal adult person is advised to drink about 2 to 3 liters of water a day. But sometimes people start drinking excess water in the circle of looking more healthy or avoiding dehydration, which can prove to be harmful for the body. Drinking more water affects our kidneys the most. In such a situation, let us know how to harm the kidney by drinking more water, what are its symptoms and what are the ways to avoid it.

When we drink excess water, our kidneys have to work more to work to get extra water out of the body. This increases the pressure on the kidney and its functioning gradually starts decreasing. Drinking more water can reduce the level of sodium in the blood, which creates a condition called hyponatramia. In this situation, the cells begin to swell, which can damage the cells of the brain and kidney. If this happens continuously, the filtration capacity of the kidney is affected and the kidney failure can also come.

What are the symptoms

Dr. Himanshu Verma in Nephrology Department at Safdarjung Hospital It is said that some symptoms of the imbalance that arises in the body by drinking too much water starts to appear gradually. First of all, a person has a problem of frequent urination, which can disturb sleep at night. Apart from this, there can be problems like swelling, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, headache and mental illusion. When drinking too much water, the level of sodium in the blood falls excessively, then the person can also go into a state of unconsciousness. Apart from this, if the color of urine remains very light continuously, then it may be a sign that the amount of water in the body is more than that. When such a situation persists for a long time, the functioning of the kidney starts to weaken, due to which the toxic elements in the body are not completely out and many serious diseases can be born.
