For fans of 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah', recent buzz about two of its most beloved stars, Dilip Joshi (Jethalal) and Munmun Dutta (Babita), potentially leaving the show sparked widespread speculation. However, the show’s creator and producer Asit Kumarr Modi has now addressed the rumours head-on and set the record straight.
In an interview with Moneycontrol, Asit Modi rubbished the rumours surrounding Dilip and Munmun’s exit, attributing the noise to the growing negativity on social media. “As you know, social media these days has become so negative that you should try to keep a positive mindset. And Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is a completely positive show. It’s a family show that spreads happiness. So some people should think positively about it. It’s not right to spread rumours over small things or say anything inappropriate. That’s not a good thing,” he said.
Putting to rest concerns over the actors' alleged departure, he clarified, “Lekin kuch nahi hai, sab log hamari team ka part hai. Kuch unke personal reasons the to us time nahi the. To aise koi baat nahi hai.”
Speculation about the actors’ exit gained traction due to their noticeable absence from the show’s ongoing 'Bhootni' storyline. While most of Gokuldham Society’s key members, including Bapuji, Popatlal, Sodhi, Taarak Mehta, and Anjali, are seen navigating the haunted house subplot, Jethalal and Babita’s characters have been missing from recent episodes. That absence was enough for fans to assume something bigger might be brewing behind the scenes.
Launched in 2008 on SAB TV, 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' remains one of Indian television’s longest-running sitcoms. Loosely based on the Gujarati column Duniya Ne Undha Chashma by Taarak Mehta, the show revolves around the lives of residents in the fictional Gokuldham Society. At its centre is Jethalal Gada, portrayed by Dilip Joshi, whose everyday escapades and impeccable comic timing have helped build the show’s cult following.
