If you think that only your phone spies on you, then wait a bit. You might be surprised to know that not only your phone but your smart TV also keeps an eye on your every move. What do you watch? What kind of content are you interested in or on which OTT channel do you enjoy your favorite series? Your TV continuously collects a lot of such information and sends it to the servers. After this, this data is used to show you targeted advertisements.

Settings come on

Let us tell you that in most smart TVs, the settings related to collecting your data are already on. If it is not turned off, then not only you but your whole family becomes the victim of your TV's spying. Experts advise that this setting should be turned off immediately after setting up the TV. TV manufacturers use this data for advertising and content personalization.

What are the disadvantages?

You can understand its disadvantages in this way when you watch content on your smartphone and the apps prepare advertisements for you according to your behavior, then at that time only you are the target. Your children or the elders of the house are not included in this. However, this is not the case with TV. When your TV keeps an eye on you, it is also keeping an eye on every member of the house who uses that TV. Let us know which setting of the TV you should turn off immediately to avoid this.

This is how it spies.

Your TV comes with ACR settings. That is, "Automatic Content Recognition". This is a technology that recognizes the content running on your TV, be it a movie, web series, or YouTube video. This technology collects information about every program you watch and sends it to the TV company or a third party. It is used to understand your viewing pattern and show targeted advertisements. Usually, this feature is already on in smart TVs. Therefore, experts recommend that it is better to turn off ACR manually after setup. To turn off this setting, you have to go to the settings of your TV. Select Privacy or Terms & Conditions there. After this, find the ACR or Viewing Data option and turn off ACR or Data Collection.
