ITV has pulled filming of Stephen Mulhern's game show You Bet! after a van caught fire on set, sending thousands of pounds worth of equipment up in flames. The 48-year-old Deal or No Deal host was filming a special segment for the show based around its hit soap Emmerdale in Yorkshire when the vehicle caught fire.
He headed to Harewood House near Leeds where the soap is filmed to shoot a special challenge segment for the next series of his game show, featuring a celebrity panel. But things quickly devolved into chaos, with the West Yorkshire Fire Service called out to attend the emergency.
According to MailOnline, two fire engines were called to the scene as the blaze spread to prop vans used by the crews - and forcing executives to abandon filming. One eyewitness described the "carnage" on-set, telling the publication: "The blaze just started from a random vehicle which then resulted in vans used by the crew also going up in flames.
"There was obvious panic and it's a miracle nobody was harmed. The fire started within close proximity of the soap and thankfully didn't spread inside where filming takes place."
A spokesperson for the fire service confirmed: "We were called at 15.57 on Friday to reports of a small vehicle on fire on Harewood Avenue. We sent two crews, Moortown and Wetherby.
"On arrival this was found to be two vehicles on fire which crews extinguished. No reports of any injuries. The cause has been recorded as accidental."
Meanwhile, an ITV spokesperson said: "Following an incident that was unrelated to filming, production for You Bet! was suspended as a precaution. The situation was promptly assessed by the fire services and no-one was injured or affected.
"The health and safety of all individuals involved in the making of the programme remains our highest priority."
