Historic Victory for India in Table Tennis

Tashkent [Uzbekistan], July 1: In a remarkable achievement, Divyanshi Bhowmick has made history at the 29th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships by becoming the first Indian in 36 years to clinch the U-15 Girls' Singles title. The 14-year-old athlete triumphed over China's Zhu Qihi with a score of 4-2 in a tense final match.

Divyanshi's journey to victory was nothing short of extraordinary, as she defeated three Chinese competitors along the way—an unprecedented accomplishment in the realm of Indian youth table tennis, according to a press release.

As the second seed, her victory not only earned her the championship title but also secured her spot in the upcoming World Youth Championships. A pivotal moment in her campaign occurred during the semifinals, where she narrowly defeated China's Liu Ziling in a gripping seven-game match, keeping India's hopes for gold alive.

Divyanshi is a product of India's burgeoning table tennis talent pool and is currently part of the Dani Sports Foundation's development initiative, which collaborates with Ultimate Table Tennis to scout and nurture young athletes.

She also participated in the inaugural edition of the Dream UTT Juniors, held alongside Ultimate Table Tennis Season 6 in Ahmedabad, showcasing some of the nation's finest young talents. Earlier this year, she was recognized as the Best Women's Player (Overall) at the Table Tennis Super League (TTSL) in Maharashtra.

India concluded its campaign in Tashkent with a total of one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, with Divyanshi's victory marking a significant milestone in the country's resurgence in youth table tennis.
