A major UK motorway has closed this morning after a serious crash. Motorists on the M1 face severe delays as both directions between J41 and J40 nearWakefieldhave been closed. According to our Inrix traffic system, it was reported at 8.15 today (July 2).

It said: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to serious accident on M1 in both directions from J41 A650 (Carrgate) to J40 A638 Wakefield Road ( Ossett/ Wakefield).

"Traffic is now held in both directions."
