As Wimbledon 2025 swings into action, Sir Andy Murray, one of Britain's greatest sporting heroes, has opened up about a rare turbulent moment in his otherwise rock-solid relationship with his wife, Kim Sears. The tennis superstar revealed a surprising anecdote from over a decade ago when a brief split from Sears led to an impulsive purchase and a brush with the law.

Murray and Sears, who married in 2015, have long been regarded as one of the most enduring partnerships on the professional tennis circuit. Their bond has weathered the intense pressures of Murray's career, including the nail-biting SW19 epics that kept fans and family alike on edge. From his historic 2013 and 2016 Wimbledon triumphs to the gruelling matches that defined his legacy, Sears has been a constant presence, supporting him through every high and low. Together, they have four children and have built a life rooted in mutual respect and shared resilience. However, in 2008, the couple briefly parted ways, an experience that left Murray reeling.

In a candid admission during a recent live show, Murray explained that he tried to cope with the emotional fallout in a way that was wildly out of character: he bought a Ferrari, which he affectionately dubbed "Barry the Ferrari." "I thought it was cool," the 38-year-old laughed.

But the joyride was short-lived. "The first day I took it out to drive, it got pulled over by the police because the insurance hadn't cleared," Murray added. "I got rid of it over a couple of months, because it wasn't really me."

The episode offers a rare glimpse into a more vulnerable side of Murray, whose demeanour - at least in public - was almost exclusively stoic, save for the odd Centre Court tear or two.

Though painful, the brief split from Sears ultimately strengthened their relationship. Since reuniting, they've faced life's challenges as a united front, from Murray's career demands to the joys and complexities of marriage and parenthood.

The pair started dating in 2005. Kim - daughter of player-turned-coach Nigel Sears, who previously worked with Emma Raducanu - bonded instantly with Andy over their love of tennis. They announced their engagement in 2014 and tied the knot a year later. They now live in Surrey with their son and three daughters.

With Andy now retired, and with his coaching responsiblities on the backburners for the time being, he's free to dedicate more time than ever to his family. However, in a playful jab at her husband, Kim suggested that was anything but the case.

"He is playing so much f***ing golf," she laughed. Yet, beneath the humour lies a partnership that has grown only stronger with time.

As Murray settles into life away from the tour, his and Kim's shared journey - marked by love, laughter, and unwavering support - remains a beacon of stability, proving that even a fleeting Ferrari can't outshine the enduring spark of their bond.
