After England recorded its warmest June on record, and the UK experienced its second warmest since records began in 1884, according to provisional Met Office data. But that's not our lot for the summer just yet as a new heatwave is forecast for later this month. Recent weather maps reveal another surge of hot weather sweeping across the UK, from near Edinburgh in Scotland, to Plymouth in the south of England. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 34C in the Southwest, 33C in Gloucestershire, 31C in the Midlands, and 30C in London, with the peak heat forecast for around 6pm on Wednesday, July 16, according to WX Charts.

Netweather also predicts warm temperatures lingering late into the evening on July 16. Highs of up to 27C are expected around 9 pm near Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, 26C near Oxford, 25C in London, and 25C in Sussex.

The Met Office's long range forecast from Wednesday July 16 to Wednesday July 30 reads: "Changeable conditions with a predominantly northwest to southeast split in temperature and rainfall, and the potential for further occasional episodes of hot weather and thundery outbreaks, are considered likely to gradually give way to something more settled and dry overall through the second half of July.

"Temperatures are likely to be above average, with the greatest chance of very warm or hot spells in the south or southeast."

The weather forecast from Monday July 7 to Wednesday July 16 also reads: "Likely a fairly cool and showery start to the new week. Showers will tend to focus on northern and eastern areas of the UK, while parts of the south and west again become largely dry.

"Through the rest of the week any rain will tend to focus on the north or northwest of the country, with the south becoming predominantly dry. Temperatures are likely to remain close to, perhaps a little below average initially.

"However toward the following weekend there are signs that temperatures will begin to trend up, becoming warm or very warm once again, especially across southern parts of the UK, but perhaps more widely as we head toward the middle of July."

Much of Europe continues to swelter under an 'exceptional' heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 40C and deadly wildfires prompting widespread heat alerts across the continent.
