The finale of the third season of Netflix’s famous Korean series ‘Squad Game’ was as shocking, the more emotional. But now series cricketer Hwang Dong-Huk has revealed that a separate end was also prepared, which was changed in the last moment.
Released on June 27, ‘Squid Game Season 3’ obtained 68 million views in the first 4 days. While the audience’s opinion is divided about the show, there is a lot of discussion on social media regarding its end. Now the creator-director Hwang Dong-Huk has come forward and shared the thinking behind this ‘baby ending’ and Ge-Hun’s sacrifice.
In the last episode of ‘Squid Game Season 3’, the lead character Geung-Jae sacrificed herself for a newborn girl. In the last game, he jumps with a dangerous lease so that the girl can live alive. This end was shocking and many fans did not feel satisfactory. But director Hwang Dong-Huky told in an interview to Vanity Fair that this was not his first plan.
"In the beginning, when I was just thinking about season 2 and 3, I thought an end in which Ge-Hun escapes alive and goes out of the game and goes to America and meets my daughter. It would have been a happy ending. But when I actually started writing, I thought more deeply what message I want to give to the world through this show," Hwang said.
Hwang Dong-Huk further said, "I thought that Ge-Hun and some important characters-perhaps even by including that girl-would come out of Iland. I had imagined that during the final game, the police and June-to reach there at the right time and Ge-Hun would not end the game alone but with everyone." He further said that I had not seriously considered any third end. These were just two options in my mind.
The entry of the girl shown as the player 222 in ‘Squid Game 3’ changed the direction of the entire show. It was shocking to the audience to include a newborn in the game of death. But there was a deep thinking behind it.
Hwang said that the child is a symbol of hope and future. When Gi-Hun, who is of the older generation, gives her life to that girl, I wanted to show that we have to sacrifice ourselves to give a better world to the next generation. I felt that this would be the most suitable end for the show.
Many prominent artists returned once again in ‘Squid Game Season 3’. These include Lee Jung-J, Lee Beung-Hun, Y Ha-Zoon, Park Sung-Hun, Im C-Waun, Joe You-Ri, Kang A-Shim, Yang Dong-Gune, Lee David, Roh J-Von etc.
