Piers Morgan had a ruthless response to Rachel Reeves crying in Parliament - telling her to "get out of the political kitchen". The chancellor was seen with tears rolling down her cheeks in the Commons yesterday (July 2) while prime minister Keir Starmer seemed completely unaware - with Tory leader Kemi Badenoch branding her "absolutely miserable".
Now TalkTV star Piers has had his say, tweeting: "So much disingenuous guff being spewed about Rachel Reeves. If a male Chancellor cried in the Commons because he'd had a row with the Speaker, the media would be rightly merciless. If you can't stand the heat, Rachel, get out of the political kitchen. Your job is too important."
He left fans divided in the replies section, with one rushing to defend Reeves by saying: "Widely reported from very early on that it was a personal matter. Yet late in the day you spin it into an attack on a woman that you tell should get out if she cannot do her job. That is pretty disingenuous."
However, another argued: "Less than a year ago they crowed about the UK having its first female chancellor. Today she caused the markets to drop by crying in Parliament. Whatever caused her distress, she should not have attended PMQs if there was any chance she would be unable to control her emotions."
Another posted: "I dislike her but let's not make mocking someone for crying a thing." As a fourth said: "I sincerely hope that if you're ever unfortunate enough to break down in public people treat you with more compassion than you've shown her."
Piers added that Reeves needs to "urgently clarify" what kind of personal matter led her to cry at PMQs, and tweeted: "I suspect Rachel Reeves won't be Chancellor by the end of the day, and honestly she shouldn't be if the (vital) job has reduced her to a public emotional wreck. Britain urgently needs strong confident leadership."
However, Downing Street has confirmed that she is "going nowhere" in the wake of questions raised about her future in politics.
