Messages of support have flooded in after it was tragically confirmed on Thursday that Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died in a car crash. The heartbreaking tragedy happened just two weeks after he and partner Rute Cardoso were wed, while they welcomed their third child only late last year.

The Portugal international was sent masses of congratulatory messages after his daughter, whose name has not been confirmed, was born in October 2024. Jota, 28, is survived by his wife and three children: two sons, Denis and Duarte, and his daughter. The football world was rocked by the news of Jota's death following a car crash while in the vehicle with his brother, Andre, near Zamora in Spain. Throngs of fans, both those connected to Liverpool and further afield, have paid tribute to the Premier League winner.

And the winger's family were also sent masses of messages celebrating the birth of their youngest child last season. Jota took to social media in October and posted a picture of the couple's latest addition, with him and his partner's hands holding hers.

Former Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Acterberg wrote: "Congratulations Diogo, hope all is well with all." Another celebratory message read: "Congratulations, wonderful news."

One fan even suggested Jota's third child could have a future playing alongside the daughter of Curtis Jones, Giselle, who was also born last October. Team-mate Darwin Nunez and his partner, Lorena Manas, also had a daughter just a few months later in February 2025.

Jota and partner Rute had yet to publicly disclose the name of their daughter by the time tragedy struck this week. The couple welcomed their first son, Denis, in 2021 before announcing that their second child, Duarte, was born in 2023.

The Guardia Civil has told BBC Sport on Thursday that Jota and his brother died just after midnight following a road accident.

It's understood the Lamborghini they were driving veered off the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking another vehicle and then caught fire.

Emergency services were called to attend as the fire was extinguished. Both Jota and his brother Andre died at the scene.
