Shaktipeeth expressway: The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the land acquisition and the scheme by the Maharashtra Cabinet to Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway. The 802 km long high-speed corridor, officially known as Maharashtra Shaktipeeth Mahamarg, will connect Pawanar in Wardha district to Patradevi in Sindhudurg near Maharashtra-Goa border. The expressway will pass through 11 districts of the state and connect 18 major religious places including three Shaktipeeths, two Jyotirlingas and spiritual centers like Pandharpur and Ambajogai. The expressway will connect major pilgrimage sites like Mahalakshmi Temple (Kolhapur), Tulja Bhavani Temple (Dharashiv) and Renuka Mata Shakti Peeth (Nanded).
Rs 20,787 crore has been allocated for land acquisition for this expressway. The expressway project will be implemented through the state -run infrastructure corporation, in which the land acquisition and initial plan process will be overseen by the Public Works Department (PWD). Of the 8,419 hectares required for the project, about 8,100 hectares are of individual farmers. Work on the expressway was stopped due to protests in Kolhapur and surrounding sugar belt districts.

Shaktipeeth Expressway will be established as a religious and cultural corridor, aimed at connecting religious places in Vidarbha, Marathwada and western Maharashtra. Expressway will pass through Wardha, Yavatmal, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Latur, Beed, Dharashiv, Solapur, Kolhapur and Sindhudurg. 20,000 crore has now been allocated for the project. By completion, its cost is estimated to be around Rs 80,000 crore. Officials say that after the completion of this expressway, the journey from Nagpur to Goa will be completed in 8 hours. It takes 18 hours now.
