A track failure way down the other end of the District Line - the main line that feeds nearby Southfields station caused serious issues for fans wanting to get to SW19 for its 10am opening. The problems began on Wednesday evening with a track fault at Tower Hill.

And travellers were greeted with the news this morning that the whole of the line faces severe delays all day today due to the issue.

There is no service at all between Tower Hill and Whitechapel and the fault means the rest of the line was subect to knock on problems.

Trains that did eventually get through to Southfields were packed with hot and weary travellers who ended up arriving later than they hoped.

One said: "It was absolutely horrendous and just sums up the state of things. You have one of the world's biggest competitions on and the main tube line that feeds it has major problems. You really could not make it up. It's a nightmare."

Juliet Rix tweeted: "Absolute chaos on district line this morning. Queueing just to get out of Southfields station. So if going to #Wimbledon2025 (I'm not sadly) leave plenty of time! #transport #London"

A TFL spokesperson said: "We apologise to customers affected by the disruption on the District line, which is due to a track fault at Tower Hill. Our engineers are working hard to rectify the fault as soon as possible and restore a good service. District line customers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to check before they travel using TfL Journey Planner or the TfL Go app."

Wimbledon MP Paul Kohler said earlier this week:" "I'm acutely aware of ongoing issues with District Line services, affecting both my constituents & visitors during this busy period. I've contacted TfL for urgent updates on recent issues & requested a meeting to discuss improving reliability of services in short & longer term."

Another tweeter said "One would think the district line would at least attempt to function in the middle of @Wimbledon
