In a strategic move, the state government effectively defused the state-wide transport strike by including almost all major transport associations representatives in newly formed high-level committee.

"By ensuring representation of all major association representatives in the high-level committee formed on Tuesday, the state government weakened the protest’s momentum. The inclusion of these association representatives in the committee not only gave them a platform to voice their issues but also led many of them to withdraw from the agitation, rendering the strike largely ineffective" said a transporter who don't want to be quoted.

"Although a section of truck and tempo operators remains adamant about continuing the protest, their efforts appear largely ineffective on the ground" he said.

However, protesting transporters believe that the truckers are not yet satisfied. In the coming days, more associations are expected to join them.

The strike, which was initially called by a coalition of transporters—including private bus operators, freight carriers, and politically affiliated unions—was aimed at protesting alleged harassment by traffic police, excessive e-challans (electronic fines), and various operational challenges posed by the transport department.

However, the movement began to fizzle out after major transport associations, including school bus operators and the Private Luxury Bus Association, withdrew from the protest. Although both groups had initially pledged full participation, they later reversed their decisions, significantly weakening the strike’s impact.

Several associations from the goods transport sector also distanced themselves from the agitation. Instead of participating directly, they extended only moral support, further diluting the strength of the protest.

According to sources, the state government’s decision to include representatives from prominent transport associations in the newly formed committee played a crucial role in pacifying dissent. By giving these stakeholders a voice in the resolution process, the government effectively undercut the strike’s momentum.
