Union Public Service Commission i.e. UPSC, has officially released the schedule of the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2025 Mains. The examination will be conducted on 10 August 2025. The purpose of this recruitment examination is to fill a total of 457 posts in various engineering disciplines, including Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering. The main examination will be of a descriptive type. Only those candidates will be able to appear in this examination who have passed the preliminary examination held earlier this year.

The examination will be conducted in two shifts. In the first shift, from 9 am to 12 noon, there will be a subject-specific paper (Paper-I) - Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering. This exam, a total of 300 marks, will be for 3 hours. At the same time, in the second shift, from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm, there will be a subject specific paper (Paper-II) - Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering. This exam will also be of 300 marks, the duration of which will be 3 hours.

Where is the recruitment done?

UPSC conducts this exam every year. This exam is for those engineering students who want to become officers in prestigious departments of the Central Government like Railways, CPWD, Indian Defense Service, Telecom, Water Commission, and PWD, etc.

What is the educational qualification required?

If we talk about the educational qualification to appear in this exam, then the candidates should have a BE/B.Tech degree from a recognized university, or they should have obtained a recognized engineering degree, like Associate Member of Institution of Engineers (AMIE).

The interview will be held after the Mains result.

Every year, the notification of UPSC Engineering Services Examination is released in September-October, and after that, the application process starts for it. Last year, the application process was run on the official website of UPSC upsc.gov.in, from September to October and the window for correction in the application was open from 9 to 15 October 2024. At the same time, the preliminary examination was conducted in January this year. After this, the mains exam is to be held on August 10. Then the interview process will start and the final merit list of the candidates will be released on the basis of mains-interview marks.
