Investigation Initiated Following Building Collapse in Shimla

The authorities have announced an investigation into the recent collapse of a five-story building on the outskirts of Shimla. A report will also be prepared regarding the construction of a four-lane road near the accident site.

On Thursday, Anupam Kashyap, the Deputy Commissioner of Shimla, stated that a committee led by the Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) will examine the reasons behind the building's collapse and submit a report.

Additionally, a separate committee will assess the status of the road project between Kathlighat and Dhalli. This development follows a disagreement between Himachal Pradesh's Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh and officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

After the building's collapse in Mathu Colony, a case was filed against the minister for allegedly attacking NHAI officials. The building's owner and residents of nearby homes, which have become unsafe, have blamed the project for the incident.

The project is being executed by a private company under the supervision of NHAI. Kashyap mentioned that if the homes surrounding the collapsed building are found to be at risk due to the project, the committee will also provide a report on that matter.

The Deputy Commissioner noted that the construction has posed a threat to local residences, with numerous complaints received regarding the situation. An official statement indicated that a decision was made to request a report from NHAI as well.

Kashyap instructed the road construction company to submit a report on compliance with regulations. Furthermore, a separate report regarding the land acquired for the project has also been requested.

The Deputy Commissioner has directed NHAI officials to address the demands of the affected residents. Additionally, he has instructed the Public Works Department to inspect the partially damaged buildings to assess the damage and facilitate compensation for the impacted homeowners.
