GOA School Closed: The Directorate of Education has announced a break for all Goa schools today due to the terrible weather that is expected to hit the state. The decision comes after the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) published an alert warning of severe to very heavy rains in different parts of Goa.

According to an official notice published by the Government of Goa's Directorate of Education, the shutdown affects both students and teachers. Yet, teachers engaged in training programmes must report on time.

The circular, designated Acad/CIR/375/2023/2119 and dated July 3, 2025, was endorsed by Director of Education Shailesh R. Sinal Zingde. It states that the decision was made "in view of the incessant rain and warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, Goa Centre." The administration has stressed school children's safety, noting that travelling during heavy weather might be dangerous.

The announcement further extends the holiday to school workers, stating that the shutdown applies to "both students and teachers." However, it includes a clear exception for teachers who have been deputed for training, emphasising that they must report for duty on time.

Goa Schools Closed: Guidelines To Follow

The circular includes an important message for students. Parents and children are advised to follow the guidelines mentioned below:

1. All pupils have been strongly advised to stay indoors and avoid going outside unless necessary. Given the unpredictable nature of the weather, the agency has advised avoiding flooded roadways, riversides, and other potentially hazardous areas.

2. This preventive measure is in reaction to the IMD's projection, which predicts substantial rainfall across Goa. The state is notorious for its violent monsoon spells, and such warnings are taken seriously, particularly when it comes to children's welfare.

3. Parents are asked to keep their children safe indoors and follow the Directorate of Education's guidelines. Schools should clearly explain the vacation announcement to students and staff, as well as make suitable arrangements for any teacher-led training sessions.

4. For more clarity, please contact the Directorate at dir-educ.goa@nic.in or 0832-2416023/2416033. 0832-2416136 is the fax number that appears on the circular.
