This is important because banks, schools, colleges, and government offices remain closed on the occasion of Muharram.

On which day will Muharram be a holiday?

The date of Muharram will be decided based on moon sighting. According to the calendar of the Government of India, July 6 is the date of Muharram. That is, officially, there is a holiday for Muharram on July 6. Since this day is Sunday, no separate holiday will be available.

Instead, there will be a holiday everywhere on July 7 due to Muharram. So far, there is no mention of a holiday on July 7 in most institutions. According to the academic calendar of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), July 6 is the likely date of Muharram. It is worth noting that there is no bank holiday on July 7.

Will the stock market remain closed?

If Muharram is observed on July 7, then public holidays may be declared in states with a large Muslim population like West Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana. An official notification is expected to be issued soon. As far as the stock market is concerned, since there is no public holiday on this day, the markets will remain open and business will be carried out as usual.
