Europe's best beach, boasting stunning white sand and crystal clear waters, is actually man-made. Travel firm Omio has ranked the top beaches across the continent, with the crown going to Teresitas Beach in Tenerife. Situated near the village of San Andrés, this pristine white sandy beach is the perfect spot for a family day out under the sun.
The mile-long beach is actually man-made, its soft sand ideal for leisurely walks, having been imported from the desert near Santa Cruz. In 1953, authorities on the Canary Islands decided to construct an artificial beach on the land, and 20 years later, some 270,000 tons of white sand were transported from Western Sahara, with the beach created over the original volcanic sands.
It's been rehabilitated and reconditioned several times since and stretches around 0.8 miles long and 262 feet wide.
Its unique colour has also made it a standout destination for holidaymakers, and it was previously named as one of the nation's most "picturesque" according to data analysed by Learn Spanish With James.
Its waters are not only clean and clear but also safe for swimming, thanks to a surrounding breakwater that shields it from currents, creating a tranquil environment for bathing.
Palm trees and sun loungers provide a welcome respite from the scorching sun, while amenities such as showers, toilets, changing rooms and several nearby bars selling snacks and refreshing beverages add to the convenience.
Teresitas Beach earns high praise for its serene, crystal-clear waters, imported golden sand, and the dramatic backdrop of volcanic peaks. Its gentle waves and lifeguard services make it an ideal location for families.
One person wrote in Tripadvisor: "Playa de las Teresitas is, in my humble opinion, the most beautiful on the island. Golden sand, crystal clear waters and equipped with all amenities."
Another commented: "You will not be disappointed if you decide to visit this beautiful beach when you are vacationing in Tenerife!!"
A third added: "It's a fantastic spot for a relaxing family day, and we're already planning to visit again!"
