A popular and beloved water park crowned the best in Scotland is set to reopen early after undergoing a major makeover.

The Time Capsule in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, has been closed since March in order to conduct essential upgrades.

Works were expected to take up to six months initially, but it has since been announced the attraction will open its doors once more in just a few weeks time.

North Lanarkshire Council has confirmed a lot of work has been done underneath the park, including the replacement of old pumps, outdated wiring and air blowers, as well as upgrading electrical panels.

Active NL shared a video on social media, giving people a sneak peak the new-look iconic facility.

It was captioned: "It's been a busy few months recharging the Time Capsule waterpark and we are delighted to announce that we anticipate the reopening to be late July.

"As we enter the final stages of the most significant upgrade to the waterpark in over 30 years, we're excited to welcome visitors back.

"While some of the features such as the tipping bucket won't be in action yet, we are committed to a phased programme of work to restore them."

They also thanked visitors "for their understanding and patience" during the downtime and urged them to keep an eye out for further updates.

The Time Capsule, located just 25 minutes outside of Glasgow, was named on Time Out's list of the UK's top pools.

Its features include a 25m swimming pool, a Tsunami wavepool, a wave machine, fun flumes, other fun rhymes and a Riptide River.

Plus there's the leisure complex that boasts a fully equipped gym facility, as well as a soft play area and even an ice rink.

The mega attraction is popular across the country and beyond, attracting around 700,000 visitors annually-with entry fees between £3.55 to £6.85 per person.
