Sara Cox has disclosed that she was once left "fuming" after feeling a "bit weird" prior to a radio broadcast. Speaking on a recent episode of the Table Manners podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware, the 50-year-old BBC Radio 2 presenter shared an experience that fills her with "fear".

Discussing the topic of consuming alcohol before going live on air, Sara, who features in the new series of Celebrity Gogglebox, recounted an incident when this happened to her entirely by accident.

She explained that she was participating in a "no-drink thing" at the time, so she ordered what she believed to be a harmless drink. However, shortly after it arrived, she began to feel a "bit weird".

Sara said: "Nothing fills me with fear more than the thought of being on air and having had a drink. In fact, I was doing a no-drink thing."

She detailed how she entered a "Cafe Bar place" for a meeting and, since she wasn't drinking, she ordered a Virgin Mary. Sara didn't notice anything unusual about the taste and was scheduled to go on air in a "couple of hours".

Sara continued: "This is a couple of hours before the radio, and I didn't taste anything in it, but within 10 minutes, I started to feel a bit weird, and at this point, I wasn't drinking for 10 weeks."

She added: "Ten minutes after having this alleged 'Virgin Mary', started to feel funny, and I'm like, 'I'm either having a funny turn or there's booze in this', so there was b****y booze in it. I was fuming!"

Originating from Bolton, the seasoned radio presenter joined BBC Radio 1 in 1999, initially hosting a midday programme before starting the Sunday Surgery. She took over the reins of the channel's breakfast show in 2000.

Since then, she has moved to Radio 2, presented TV programmes like 'Between the Covers', and ventured into writing novels. She is wed to advertising executive Ben Cyzer and is a mother to three children.

Sara and her brood reside in North London, sharing their abode with a trio of dogs named Daisy, Dolly, and Pip, two feline friends Watson and Peggy, and a pair of "quite posh" tortoises, Tom and Chally.

Moreover, Sara owns a horse called Nelly, acquired during the Covid-19 lockdown, who has become a significant part of her life and is stabled in Hertfordshire.

Discussing Nelly, Sara once shared: "She dropped lovely big, warm, soft, ping pong balls of s**t on me.

"She trumps on my head most days as I'm picking out her back feet, but this was a new one on me, where she actually s**t on me. I can't have any airs and graces around my animals."

You can next catch Celebrity Gogglebox on Channel 4 on Friday, July 4, from 9pm to 10pm.
